Students in our amazing Military Club, sponsored by Mrs. Vanassche came together to assemble a care package for a deployed Air Force service member! They included some of his favorite snacks and heartfelt notes of encouragement to show their gratitude and support. But the kindness didn’t stop there—students also wrote inspiring quotes for a local hero currently at boot camp, sending motivation and smiles all the way from home. 💪💛

We’re so proud of our students for showing that even small gestures can make a big difference! We are #AbingtonProud #ASHSProud #FirstinActivities "

Yesterday, a group of seniors attended tours of three local trade union apprentice training programs: the Steamfitters Union, the Plumbers Union, and the Sprinkler Fitters Union. The students learned about what each trade specializes in, were able to chat with apprentices currently enrolled in the programs, and heard some valuable advice about developing their soft skills for future hiring! Special thanks to Mrs. Gretchen Hansen for organizing this trip for our students! We are #AbingtonProud #ASHSProud #FirstinAcademics

While Ms. England's class carved a turkey last week, Ms. Vanassche's Regional Cuisine Class was busy saving a turkey by celebrating the holiday with a Student-Made Regional Pizza Party! For the second level of cooking, students learned about different regions of the United States, including their flavors, culture and history. They then worked hard to incorporate the flavors unique to their assigned region into their pizza recipes. Students were excited to showcase their talents and invite a staff member to come dine with them!

🍽️Level 2 Chefs Take on America’s Flavors🍕 For the second level of our cooking course, students explored the rich flavors, cultures, and histories of different regions across the United States! Instead of turkeys, they created regional-inspired pizzas to capture the unique tastes found around the country. Only in our second year of offering this course, these students worked incredibly hard to build flavors that truly represented their assigned regions. Their creativity and dedication showed in every bite! The best part? Students were thrilled to showcase their talents and invite a staff member to dine with them. ❤️👩‍🍳👨‍🍳 So proud of their hard work and delicious results! 🙌🍴 We are #AbingtonProud #ASHSProud #FirstinActivities

🎉📷 Big thanks to Abington alum Kacey Hamsher for visiting yesterday and sharing her inspiring journey to becoming a photographer! 📸

Kacey, now a senior at the University of Delaware, spoke with students about her path—starting as a nutrition major before discovering her passion and switching to communications, journalism, and sports management. She’s built an impressive photography portfolio and plans to pursue photography full-time after graduation.

Our students were engaged, asked thoughtful questions, and left truly inspired. 🌟

Thank you, Kacey, for giving back to our community! We are #AbingtonProud #ASHSProud #FirstintheArts @kaceyhamsherphoto

On Friday, the Regional Cuisine classes had the opportunity to meet Chef Max Schindler. He gave a quick presentation on his experiences and background. Sharing his passion for the culinary arts. He encouraged the students to be brave and try new foods. We were lucky enough to also have a live food demonstration. He demonstrated how to roll 3 kinds of sushi rolls and discussed the fundamental skills needed. He shared his knowledge of ingredients and how interchangeable they can be. The students were super grateful to learn this new skill and few had never tried this type of cuisine before. It was a great experience for all. We are #AbingtonProud #ASHSProud #FirstinActivities

On Monday, November 10th, Abington Senior High School students in the Biomedical Pathway attended a Career Chatter event in Mr. Heine’s room, C221, featuring guest speaker Dr. Maria Radu. Students gave up their lunch period to meet with Dr. Radu, who serves as Director and Principal Scientist at Merck, where she leads vaccine research aimed at protecting people from serious diseases. During the session, students asked thoughtful questions about her educational journey and professional experiences. Dr. Radu shared insights from her path, which began with earning a medical degree in Romania and continued with a PhD in Microbiology and Immunology at Temple University. With over 20 published papers and experience teaching biology and cancer research courses, she offered valuable advice and encouragement to aspiring scientists. The event, sponsored by the Abington Medical Club and PLTW Biomedical Science Pathway, gave students an inspiring look into real-world biomedical careers.

👏 A huge thank you to Matt Magida for another fantastic visit!

Across four sessions this year, our students have explored an incredible range of topics — from fast fashion to Abington PD records, agriculture in the Netherlands, and today’s deep dive into the data behind the rise of K-pop. Each lesson has opened our students’ eyes to just how wide-ranging, relevant, and exciting data analytics can be. We’re so grateful for the time and energy you’ve invested in bringing these subjects to life!

A special shoutout to Dr. Fecher and Dr. Swift for stopping by to see Matt’s work in action. 🌟

Every year ASHS participates in the AMC competition, a national mathematics completion that awards students for answering extremely hard math problems with no calculator in a short period of time. In the entirety of ASHS Ely Yeung took the AMC 12 and got the highest score in the high-school. Congrats to Ely and to all who participated in the AMC 12.
