On March 19-21, three Symphonic Band students - Brandon Hiriak (Grade 11), French Horn; David Klinger (Grade 12), Oboe; and Kayla Thurston (Grade 11), Flute - represented ASHS in the 2026 Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) Region VI Band Festival hosted at Downingtown HS East.

The Region VI Band is composed of the best student musicians in PMEA's District 11 (Bucks and Montgomery County) and District 12( Philadelphia, Delaware, and Chester Counties). Students originally auditioned in December for a very limited number of spots in their respective PMEA District Band Festivals held in February. Student re-auditioned at the District level for the chance to move on to the region level. Students were again auditioned for advancement to the All-State Concert Band or Wind Ensemble.

We are pleased to report that David Klinger was selected for the 2026 PMEA All-State Wind Ensemble. The All-State Wind Ensemble is regarded as not only the top band in Pennsylvania but one of the finest All-State bands in the United States.

Please join us in congratulating these students on their hard work and achievements.

Abington's Chess Team, coached by Mr. Simmons, competed at nationals this past week in Chicago.

The team of Nicolas Young, Dareece Joyner, Joe Clark, and Matan and Doron Fox finished 7th in the U1200 division.

This marks another year in a streak that has lasted since 2011 of finishing in the top 10.

Another exciting and proud moment for Abington.

In March, the National English Honor Society had the pleasure of welcoming two distinguished guest speakers: Mr. Alessandro Reale and Dr. Lynne Dorfmann. Mr. Reale offered students an inside look at his writing process and his experiences as an author of young adult fiction, highlighting the creativity and discipline behind his craft. Dr. Dorfmann shared insights from her multifaceted career in writing and education, tracing the path that shaped her professional journey. Their visits provided members with valuable perspectives on authorship, storytelling, and the many ways a passion for language can shape a life. We are #AbingtonProud #ASHSProud #FirstinAcademics

Abington Senior High School French language students soaked up the theater culture of Paris this week when they saw the musical “Moulin Rouge” on Broadway. The students were impressed with the exceptional singing and dancing, as well as the outstanding set designs and lighting -- not to mention the “life-changing“ cast addition of Megan Thee Stallion as Zidler, one of the original owners of the world-famous "Can-Can" dancehall. Congratulations to Mr. Garcia's class at Highland Elementary School, who were this year's winners of Coins for Kids, organized by the high school's AbingTHON group, which raises money for pediatric cancer-focused organizations in our area. Mr. Garcia's class raised more than $300 in honor of one of their classmates who is currently fighting their own battle against pediatric cancer at @childrensphila. As the class in the district who raised the most money, the students were treated to a pizza party, delivered by the high schoolers, who in turn were welcomed with handwritten cards and posters to hang in the gym during Friday's main AbingTHON event. #ASDProud #ASDServiceLearning
