"Link Crew Advisors report, ""On Thursday, May 29, our newly selected Link Crew Leaders had their very first meeting, called “May Day” — and the energy was amazing!
May Day is the kickoff for next year’s Link Crew team — a chance for our new leaders to come together, celebrate making the team, and start learning what Link Crew is all about.
So what is Link Crew?
It’s a program built to help incoming 9th graders feel more comfortable, connected, and confident as they start high school. Let’s face it — Abington is a big place, and starting fresh can be scary. That’s where our Link Leaders come in!
Link Leaders are positive role models and mentors who guide freshmen through that transition. They’ll be welcoming the Class of 2029 with open arms in September, offering support, advice, and a friendly face in the crowd.
May Day was all about learning what it means to be a Link Leader — from building trust and leading by example to creating a supportive, inclusive school culture.
Thank you to our special guest Ms. Rochele Haynes who helped teach our Link Crew leaders the ins and outs of restorative circles they can implement with their freshman next year.
We’re looking forward to a great year ahead full of growth, leadership, and plenty of fun. Let’s go, Link Crew!

Mrs. Vanassche and Mrs. Jedlinski report, "We held our end of year party for quilting club. This was a final meeting for our seniors. These quilters were a part of our initial club start and have completed over 15 quilts for various community causes. Wishing them the best!" Way to go, seniors! We are #AbingtonProud #ASHSProud #FirstinActivities

"The Military Club worked hard to support incoming military families. The club partnered with the perfect blend to raise money to create welcome baskets for incoming military families. The baskets contain basic household items that are needed when moving.
They met to plan, coordinate, and advertise for our special drink “All American Root Beer Float”. We sold for 2 weeks and raised $175. We were able to make 10 baskets to drop off at Ft. Dix Maguire in NJ. We will be dropping off this week. We are #AbingtonProud #ASHSProud #FirstintheAlphabet"

On Monday, June 2nd, Mr. Spencer hosted a Career Chatter with actuaries from Chubb and Reliance Matrix, giving students an inside look at data-driven careers in actuarial science.
Our guests shared their unique journeys—from Laura Thomas’s path from physics education to becoming a VP & Actuary at Chubb, to Jake Cyr’s early interest in math that led him to pursue actuarial exams right out of college. Students also heard from Jenn Klein and Zach Fisher, who spoke about their roles at Reliance Matrix and how high school experiences and mentors helped shape their career paths.
Topics ranged from how to prepare for actuarial exams, the value of internships, how math and statistics are used in real-world insurance and financial modeling, to career advice on standing out in interviews and navigating workplace challenges.
A huge thank you to our guests for inspiring our students with real-world insights and advice—and for showing how analytical thinking can unlock exciting opportunities in STEM!
Thank you to Mr. Spencer for hosting this event and for the students for keeping the session engaging with their awesome questions! We are #AbingtonProud #ASHSProud #FirstinAcademics

FLASHBACK FRIDAY: As we prepare to celebrate our seniors next week, take a look back at the Class of 2025 at the first-ever CommUNITY Day in 2019. The event was initially created for 6th graders as a transitional activity, based on feedback Dr. Fecher received from students who indicated that they wanted more opportunities to meet and interact with their peers at other elementary school buildings. CommUNITY Day is now an annual Abington School District tradition! #ASDProud #ASHS2025

Mrs. Vanassche's Apparel Design I class finished their pajama pants project and had a pajama party to celebrate! Great job on this challenging project! We are #AbingtonProud #ASHSProud #FirstinAcademics

Students in Mr. Deck's law classes would like to thank Mr. Matthew Capps, an Abington graduate from the class of 2000, for sharing his knowledge and experiences during a recent Career Chatter event. Matt gave students an inside look at the work of the FBI and shared how his experiences at Abington, the U.S. Naval Academy, serving in the Navy, and time in the private sector all prepared him for his current role. He went above and beyond by staying after the session to answer individual student questions and offer meaningful advice, reminding students to take advantage of every opportunity that comes their way—you never know where it will lead. Thank you, Mr. Capps, for inspiring our Ghosts with your insight, experience, and generosity! We are #AbingtonProud #ASHSProud #FirstinAcademics @abingtonsd

Thank you to PA State Representative Ben Sanchez for visiting Abington Senior High School on Tuesday for a Career Chatter session on Tuesday, May 27.
As a proud Abington alum, it was meaningful for students to hear from someone who grew up in this community and has gone on to serve it in such an important way.
Rep. Sanchez shared his career journey—from working as a CPA and attorney to becoming a State Representative—showing students that career paths can take many different forms. He also spoke about the issues he’s passionate about and how he works to support the community.
Students appreciated his honesty and openness, and the conversations and questions that followed were a great part of the experience.
Thank you to Mr. Garry for hosting the session and preparing his students, and to Mindy Katz for organizing our student ambassadors for the session.

ASHS Life Skills class goes fishing! The Life Skills class participates in weekly CBIs (community-based instruction) which supports vocational, independent living, and recreation and leisure opportunities. For our final CBI of the year, we went to Center Point Pond in Worcester, PA which allows hourly fishing. The pond is stocked with bass, sunnies, blue gills, and a few other fish. Through the generosity of the Muskies Incorporated Chapter 51, who donated six fishing rods and the kindness of Alex Jedlinski who took time off of work to give us some valuable fishing lessons, the afternoon was filled with fun, fishing and friendship!
