UPDATE: Unfortunately, due to limited registrations, it is necessary to postpone this event to a future date.

Community organizations and local mental health experts will lead a discussion about mental health and wellness among our area’s youth and young adults, including how to identify signs of distress, how to support them in maintaining healthy mindsets, what you can do to help during times of a mental health crisis, and social-emotional resources that are available right in our own backyards. Detective Liz Cartright from the Abington Police Department visited Ms. Cohen's Principles of Biomedical Science classes on Wednesday, 9/10, to give students advice on how to approach the simulated unexplained death they will be investigating during the first marking period. Detective Liz described her experiences recording and investigating crimes around Abington, and showed students her evidence kit, including DNA swabs, fingerprint lifting equipment, blood tests, and evidence bags. Detective Liz then helped students process our simulated crime scene. Students learned to photograph, sketch, and place evidence markers in a methodical and productive way. What a great experience, meeting a real police detective and seeing the passion and heart she brings to our community. #AbingtonProud #ASHSProud #FirstinAcademics.

Each year, AbingThon hosts a 'Gold Out' game during September to raise money for our two cash organizations, Shane's Future Days and Sara's Smiles. AbingThon honors several families, the Metzgars and the Burkes, as well as a new Kisses for Kyle family each year. They come out onto the field as our leaders announce brief information about each family, those that they lost, and those still battling. Students and the community are encouraged to come out to the game and support our cause by wearing gold, along with this year's Gold Out game tshirt. See you there!
