All Abington School District schools will open on a two-hour delay on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.

Students are to report to their bus stops or schools two hours later than their usually scheduled time. Before-school care provided by the YMCA will not operate.

Do you ever wonder what Abington Senior High School does with its collection of donated fruits from the cafeterias? The Fruit Ninjas who have been running the fruit collection program since 2022 got to experience first-hand how your donations help our Abington and its surrounding communities. Members of the Fruit Ninjas visited the Willow Grove Baptist Food Pantry to help set up the food booths, hand out produce, eggs, meat, and snacks as well as household items like soap and toilet paper; they also assisted in cleaning up at the end. The students learned about the logistics and organization involved in running a food pantry. Each student shadowed an experienced volunteer, greeted food recipients, and packed food for them. The students brought smiles to the faces of the food pantry recipients as well as the other food pantry volunteers. Everyone at the food pantry applauded the Fruit Ninjas at the end of the shift. Feedback from the other volunteers included 'Can you all come every Monday?' and 'It's nice to see so many young people involved. We are #AbingtonProud #ASHSProud #FirstinActivities

In December and February, the ASHS Choirs traveled out into the community to spread holiday cheer. Between the Chorale, the Maroon and White Concert Choir and the Galloping Ghosts Concert Choir, the students, accompanied by their teacher Mrs. Wolf, traveled to 7 different destinations, including Abington Hospital, St. Peter's Church in Glenside, and 5 senior living centers. The choirs shared their vocal talents by singing holiday music, both December holidays and Valentine's Day serenading, and the staff, patients, community members, and residents were very grateful. The students benefited by getting to see firsthand how they could positively impact their community. We are very proud of this collaboration and of how well our ASHS students represented our program outside of school grounds and cared for our community members! On February 4-6, four ASHS Symphonic Band students represented Abington in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District 11 Band Festival hosted by Central Bucks East High School. The students originally auditioned and were selected in December.

The ASHS students were:
David Klinger, Grade 12, Oboe
Brandon Hiriak, Grade 11, French Horn
Patrick Sullivan, Grade 11, Alto Saxophone
Kayla Thurston, Grade 11, Flute

The students participated in intensive rehearsals over the course of two and a half days to prepare a challenging concert program. The festival concert was held on February 6 at 7:00 PM.

During the festival, students auditioned for advancement to the PMEA Region VI Band Festival. Three of our ASHS students were selected for the Region Band, which will be March 19-21, 2026, at Downingtown East HS.

The selected students are:

Brandon Hiriak, French Horn - First Chair
Kayla Thurston, Flute - Third Chair

On Thursday, February 18, ASHS Spanish 3 students, chaperoned by Señora Mirabal and Señora Salas-Wert, danced the morning away at Flaco’s Dance Factory in Jenkintown. Our students impressed the instructors with their ability to pick up on the Latin groove easily! After working up an appetite dancing, the students enjoyed an authentic Mexican lunch at Provecho in Huntingdon Valley. It was an enriching local cultural experience for all!

We were #ASDProud to host last night's @montco_pa Board of Commissioners meeting here at the Administration Building as part of their "Board on the Road" series. We thank @CommissionerWinder, @CommissionerNeil and @commissionerdibello for recognizing Abington Middle School's School-Wide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (SWPBIS) program, including our Pledge of Character and the two dozen students who were honored during the month of January for exemplifying the trait of "Helpfulness". The Commissioners also presented proclamations to our state champion @AbingtonSrHigh boys soccer team and Coach Randy Garber.

The ASHS boys' basketball team qualifies for the quarterfinals of the district playoffs as well as the first round of the state tournament! The boys will take on the #3 seed, Coatesville, tonight. ASHS Chorale serenade students and teachers for Valentine’s Day

Congrats to the Abington Chess Team for their outstanding performance at districts. The team of Sofi Ebora, Kareem Trickey, Nick Young, and Doron Fox placed second among all teams in Bucks and Montco.

As individuals, Sofia Ebora tied for second. Nick Young placed 6th. Kareem Trickey placed 8th.

The Ghosts will compete at States on March 7th.

Open House at Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) in Willow Grove is Sunday, March 1, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. This is a wonderful opportunity to see how EASTERN can give students a competitive edge in college or in a specialized career program. At the Open House, parents and students will learn how EASTERN students can earn college credits while still in high school through dual enrollment and articulation agreements. The Open House also offers an opportunity to hear from EASTERN instructors on the hands-on learning environment that complements students’ high school academics. Many special activities in EASTERN’s career programs are scheduled, and college and military representatives will be on site.

For the last few weeks, Abington’s FAAD students have been visiting the elementary schools! They teamed up in small groups to teach kids about the dangers of drug use through fun activities. Athletes honored at the Board meeting on February 10th

On Wednesday, February 11, ASHS AP and Spanish 5 students, chaperoned by Señora Mirabal and Señora Colon, visited the special exhibit called “Dreamworld: Surrealism at 100" at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Students discussed many of the featured works from artists like Salvador Dali and Joan Miró. Our scholars impressed the docent with their comments about the pieces and also participated in drawing activities related to the works. The day ended with lunch at the Reading Terminal Market, where students were able to taste both local and international cuisine. It was a fun-filled day in Philadelphia!
