UPDATE: The Board of School Directors took a key step forward in its planning process for the future of Abington Middle School. After reviewing community survey results and assessing research and independent analysis, the Board expressed a desire to pursue a plan to build one new middle school on the current campus. The District will now prepare a resolution to fund this project through a referendum, which would be voted on by Abington Township and Borough of Rockledge residents. The Board will review and vote on this resolution at the January 28 meeting of the Board of School Directors. Visit https://www.oneasdonefuture.org/resources for the full presentation and survey results. #OneASDOneFuture

Important Update on the Future of Abington Middle School
Now through March 31, everyone who shops at the GIANT on Susquehanna Road in Roslyn will be invited to “round up” at the register and donate the round-up amount of their bill to support Feeding School Kids. Customers can also give by converting their CHOICE Rewards Points to donations in the GIANT app, or by purchasing a reusable bag. At the end of March, all round-up donations will be tallied and donated to Abington School District. Donations have been used by the Student Services Department to purchase GIANT gift cards that are distributed by our social workers directly to our families in need in order to help supplement the cost of their groceries. Thank you to GIANT and our local families for feeding families in our community!

Due to the timing of tomorrow’s snow forecast, and out of a concern for safety in traveling to/from school, all Abington School District schools will be closed tomorrow, Monday, January 6, 2025. Please refer to our inclement weather procedures for the 2024-2025 school year, which were emailed to parents and guardians last month, for more information: https://www.abingtonsd.org/article/1922084. It's National School Bus Safety Week, and there's no better time than now to familiarize yourself with school bus stopping laws: 1) When you meet a stopped school bus with red signal lights flashing and stop arm extended, you MUST STOP. 2) When you approach an intersection where a school bus is stopped with red signal lights flashing and stop arm extended, you MUST STOP, whether you are on the same street or the cross street. 3) You MUST STOP at least 10 feet away from the school bus. 4) Drivers do not have to stop on a highway with clearly defined dividing sections or physical barriers providing separate roadways. This only applies when the school bus is on the opposite side of the road. 5) You MUST WAIT until the red lights have stopped flashing and the stop arm has been withdrawn before moving. 6) DO NOT MOVE until all the children have reached a place of safety. Please keep in mind that stop-arm safety technology is being installed on all ASD school buses to help Abington Police better enforce school bus stopping laws. The safety of our students as they travel to and from school is the responsibility of our entire community!
