The Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) is open to all parents/guardians of students with IEPs or 504 plans in ASD. Meetings are held at 6 p.m. in the Copper Beech Library on October 6, November 3, January 12 and April 13.

Calling all readers! The ASD Reads! poster campaign is expanding for the 2025-2026 school year, and we want to feature our students' love of reading on social media! Email a photo of your student either reading, or posing with, their favorite book to CR@abington.k12.pa.us. Please include their name, school, and the book's title, which we will feature on ASD social media channels as their very own ASD Reads! comic-book-style poster. #ASDReads #ASDProud

Overlook celebrated Start With Hello week last week as students learned the skills to reach out to and include other children experiencing social isolation. Our entire Overlook community aims to create a culture of inclusion and connectedness within each classroom and throughout our school!

Community organizations and local mental health experts will lead a discussion about mental health and wellness among our area’s youth and young adults, including how to identify signs of distress, how to support them in maintaining healthy mindsets, what you can do to help during times of a mental health crisis, and social-emotional resources that are available right in our own backyards. The free event is sponsored by the Abington Community Taskforce (ACT) in partnership with Citizens and Police Together (CAPT) and Penn State Abington.

Join the Student Services Department for a new virtual series of parent seminars, hosted by the Elementary Counseling team. These seminars are designed to orient families to the services and supports that are offered by school counselors. The first seminar is tomorrow, Sept. 18 at 9:30 a.m., and will review the many ways that school counselors support student engagement in learning. Henry Szerlag (incoming AMS 6th grader) and sister Alexis (future Overlook 3rd grader) enjoyed a weekend in New Brunswick, Canada, celebrating their great-grandmother's 90th birthday! They loved tubing, jet skiing, pier jumping and fishing on the St. John River. #SummerinASD

Today we celebrate our nation's Independence Day.

As pre-K students and their families prepare for kindergarten, Overlook held a “Building Blocks for Success” workshop, where incoming kindergarteners engaged in fun activities for readiness in reading, math, and social-emotional learning. #ASDProud #Back2SchoolASD

To close out the 2024-2025 school year, Overlook held a new event, the "Prevent the Summer Slide Resource Fair" for K-2 students. Families received a free summer workbook and chose free books to read throughout the summer. The @abingtonlibrary was present to enroll families in their summer reading programs and provide information about virtual field trips and free museum days in the Philadelphia area. Students and guardians also had the opportunity to log into their i-Ready paths to continue learning over the summer. The night was a huge success! #ASDProud #ASDReads

#FlashbackFriday: To end the school year, Overlook held its annual Author’s Celebration for students in grades 1 and 2. Students created and illustrated stories to publish in a bound book, and shared their published stories in a small group setting, led by teachers and parent volunteers. #ASDProud #ASDReads
