In observation of Bullying Prevention Month, students in grade 5 at Copper Beech and grade 8 at Abington Middle School attended an assembly led by educators and public speakers, Mr. Alhassan Susso and Dr. Josue Falaise, who spoke about bullying prevention and respect, the October theme of the Abington Pledge of Character. The presentation, "Turning Adversity into Opportunity," engaged students with a variety of stories to increase their awareness around developing and maintaining positive relationships, treating each other with kindness and respect, and the purpose of valuing diversity. #ASDProud

STARTING TODAY: We are enabling a new function of our Thrillshare mass communication system that can automatically translate communications into a parent/guardian's preferred language. Copper Beech kindergarten and first grade students are busy creating fall themed artwork! Kindergarteners are painting their "Night Owls" project, while first graders create scarecrow projects in art class.
Today, the Weldon Fire Company came to visit Copper Beech kindergarten students. The children learned about the fire company and got an up close view of a fire truck!
Tonight is the annual Trunk or Treat at Abington Senior High School! The event runs from 5-7 p.m. and is open to all families.
First grade is hard at work during center time! Students take turns creating math stories and solving equations.
Copper Beech will participate in International ShakeOut Day on October 19th, 2023. Students, along with millions of people worldwide, will practice earthquake safety. To learn more, please view the following video:

Please be advised that our bullying prevention guest speaker for Thursday, September 14th, Tom Thelen, is being rescheduled to 7-8 p.m. in the ASHS auditorium. The program will also be streamed live on our Abington School District YouTube channel.
SAVE THE DATE: Thursday, Sept. 14, 6-7 p.m. at the ASHS Auditorium! Tom Thelen, lead author of Mental Health 101 for Teens and founder of Reset Schools, will be speaking at a special event for parents and guardians. Reset Schools is a nonprofit that teaches practical mental health skills and resiliency. Since 2012, Tom has spoken at over 800 schools and conferences, and has been featured on PBS, CBS, and NBC.
Earlier this week, Copper Beech Elementary staff and students were able to attend meet and greet events with new Principal, Ms. Kim Stokes, and new Assistant Principal, Dr. Michael Hogan. The theme was "Cookies with Cougars"! #ASDProud

The 2023-2024 school year officially kicked off yesterday as ASD administrators gathered for the annual Leadership Workshop! This year's back-to-school theme is "One Mission. One Vision. One ASD." #Back2SchoolASD
At Copper Beech, our PTA, students, former students, and future students have been working diligently to help us get our building ready for students! They have been quite busy sprucing up the front entrance and some of our displays inside the building. Our admin team could not wait to see the results of their hard work. "Together is a wonderful place to be" at Copper Beech!
