Highland Elementary School celebrated Black History Month by welcoming Jamilah Thompkins-Bigelow, author of the bestselling book, "Your Name is a Song." In addition to reading aloud from the book, she led the children in reader's theater and games, and answered questions about her life as a published author. She shared her lunch with a few 4th graders, and talked about her reading life. She finished her visit by signing copies of three of her picture books that students were able to take home! #ASDProud

At Roslyn Elementary School, Mrs. Oman's 5th graders joined their 1st grade buddies from Ms. Shore's class to wrap up Black History Month. The students had a blast reading together! #ASDProud

Last week, McKinley Elementary School hosted a morning McMentor event, where teachers and staff were paired with a student to complete a STEM-themed activity that involved building with straws, a circuit-board, a green screen, and other materials. #ASDProud

#FlashbackFriday: At Willow Hill Elementary School earlier this month, Ms. Flor's 2nd grade class were virtually visited by Newbery Award-winning author, Erin Entrada Kelly, who joined to celebrate World Read Aloud Day. Ms. Kelly read aloud from her "Marisol Rainey" series, and the children were so excited to meet her and to hear a snippet of the series' latest book.

#CaringandKindnessWeek Continued: Abington Middle School students had the opportunity to #SpreadtheLove to their classmates, teachers, and fellow peers. Students were given paper hearts and were invited to write something kind that someone has done for them, or jot down a simple “thank you” to someone. The hearts are being displayed around the building, or students could give the heart to the recipient directly. #ASDProud

REMINDER: No school tomorrow or Monday! See you on Tuesday, Feb. 21st.

All this week, students at ASHS can fill out kindness postcards to be delivered to students and/or staff across the building. Postcards and markers are available in the cafeterias during lunchtime to help students #spreadthelove. #ASDProud #CaringandKindnessWeek
