ASD Highlights & Happenings
From January 1 through March 31, everyone who shops at the GIANT on Susquehanna Road in Roslyn will be invited to “round up” at the register and donate the round-up amount of their bill to support Feeding School Kids. At the end of March, all round-up donations will be tallied and donated to Abington School District. Donations have been used by the Student Services Department to purchase GIANT gift cards that are distributed by our social workers directly to our families in need in order to help supplement the cost of their groceries.

This fall, Abington Middle School introduced a new Welcome Library for English-learners, thanks to a grant from PDE. A portion of the grant – which aimed to enhance ASD’s capacity to support the academic performance and successful integration of refugee students – was used to purchase multicultural and multilingual books for all students to enjoy, and to build literacy and cultural understanding among the student body.

During a recent visit to the library, students were able to actively use the Welcome Library during a lesson in which they needed to select a book for a friend and explain why they chose that particular work. #ASDProud #ASDReads

While Ms. England's class carved a turkey last week, Ms. Vanassche's Regional Cuisine Class was busy saving a turkey by celebrating the holiday with a Student-Made Regional Pizza Party! For the second level of cooking, students learned about different regions of the United States, including their flavors, culture and history. They then worked hard to incorporate the flavors unique to their assigned region into their pizza recipes. Students were excited to showcase their talents and invite a staff member to come dine with them!
