The funding will support the construction of a new Middle School
Voters in Abington Township and the Borough of Rockledge approved a bond referendum on Tuesday, May 20, authorizing Abington School District to invest $285 million to build a new Middle School. Results from Montgomery County are available here. All results are pending certification by the Montgomery County Board of Elections.
“Thank you to everyone involved in the District’s long-term planning process, and to those who voted in this election,” said Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Fecher. “This is an exciting new chapter for our District. Now we begin the important work of designing a new Middle School that will support learning, growing, and opportunity for years to come and provide long-term value for the community.”
In the 60 years since Abington Middle School was built, education has changed drastically. The building’s age also puts a heavy burden on the District’s general fund, which mainly covers classroom and operational expenses. The proposed new Middle School will be designed to feel like a smaller school community, providing a safe, accessible, healthy, and energy-efficient environment tailored to the needs of students today and in the future.
The One ASD, One Future plan was informed by a facilities assessment, financial and educational evaluations, and extensive community input. The District will continue to seek feedback from teachers, staff, students, parents/guardians, and residents during a collaborative design phase of the project. The District will share more information on this process and community engagement opportunities this summer.
