Throughout the year, officers from the Abington Police Department visited the 5th grade classes at Rydal to teach the DARE program! We are so grateful for the leadership, guidance, and fun that Officer Gibbs and Sergeant Blythe brought to our students each and every week throughout the course. Today we celebrated our 5th graders as they graduated from this amazing program!

Students worked hard to raise over $30,000 during Rydal's Boosterthon! Because they exceeded expectations and went above and beyond the school's goal, our administrative team and teachers performed in a lip sync battle! The entire gym was filled with fun songs and laughter while watching the exciting performances!

Rydal's C.A.R.E. club celebrated our school's diverse family backgrounds by inviting a special person to the club. Mrs. Sylvia Chung, who happens to teach in the district, came in and shared a Korean lesson. She brought some canvas boards and some paint sticks for the students to decorate with their Korean names. During her lesson we learned about Korean culture and practiced speaking some common phrases. We even got to try a Korean snack!

The grand unveiling of a new book vending machine at Rydal Elementary School served as a big surprise today for students in grades 1 and 2! The goal is for the vending machine to encourage reading and allow the students to share their love of books with one another. Students who receive “Bee Bucks” for being respectful, responsible, kind and an upstander will be able to cash 10 Bee Bucks in for a vending machine token. The school’s PTO raised enough money last year to purchase the book vending machine through hosting a danceathon. #ASDProud #FeelGoodFriday

Kindergarten students at Rydal West celebrated Earth Day this week! Students decorated pots, planted seedlings, listened to stories about recycling, and even got a special visit from Abington Township and their recycling truck! Mr. Gross from Briar Bush also came to visit and brought two animal friends with him, a snake and a turtle! To wrap up the exciting day, the classes competed in a recycling relay by cleaning trash up from the playground and sorting it by material.

In addition to our student council announcements and raffle drawings, 5th Grade student council members shared their favorite memories from their time at Rydal.
