Welcome to day 1 of Red Ribbon Week! Today’s theme is Rally in Red, and the red clothing that you see supports Red Ribbon Week.
So , what exactly is Red Ribbon Week?
Red Ribbon Week is a campaign in response to the murder of Drug Enforcement Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena. Camarena was tortured and killed in Mexico in 1985. After his murder, angered parents and youth in communities across the country began wearing Red Ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness of the killing and destruction caused by drugs in America — and that simple act grew into a nationwide tradition that millions of students celebrate every October.
Tomorrow’s theme is “Team Up Against Drugs.” Students and staff are encouraged to dress in team jerseys to show your support for Red Ribbon Week.
