Yesterday, @abingtonsrhigh commemorated the 85th anniversary of Kristallnacht with a visit from Holocaust survivor Pete Stern, on behalf of the Holocaust Awareness Museum and Education Center (HAMEC). Earlier this month, students from the ASHS Chorale (taught by Ms. Wolf) and Advanced Acting (taught by Ms. Whitman) traveled to the PA Renaissance Faire! Chorale competed against 20 other area schools in the music competition, performing a 16th century madrigal, and placed in the top 5, while Advanced Acting students got to hone their skills at an improv workshop. Students also enjoyed spending the day exploring the faire and interacting with professional actors while in period costume. #ASDProud #ArtsinAsD

Today, author Laura Numeroff, who wrote the childhood classic, "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie," visited Highland Elementary School! During her visit, Ms. Numeroff read her famous book along with the students, and also spoke about her other written and illustrated works. In observation of Bullying Prevention Month, students in grade 5 at Copper Beech and grade 8 at Abington Middle School attended an assembly led by educators and public speakers, Mr. Alhassan Susso and Dr. Josue Falaise, who spoke about bullying prevention and respect, the October theme of the Abington Pledge of Character. The presentation, "Turning Adversity into Opportunity," engaged students with a variety of stories to increase their awareness around developing and maintaining positive relationships, treating each other with kindness and respect, and the purpose of valuing diversity. #ASDProud
