DR. Alice L. Swift

Dr. Alice Swift

Principal

Dr. Swift, a 1983 graduate of Abington Senior High School, has more than 27 years of experience in public education, including 10 years as a high school principal in Prince George's County Public Schools in Largo, MD, where she began her career as a high school English teacher. Her tenure in the district also included serving as an Assistant Principal and as a Testing and Instruction Coordinator.

Most recently, Dr. Swift has been the Director of Safe and Orderly Schools for Anne Arundel County Public Schools in Annapolis, MD, where she also serves as the Deputy Coordinator of Title IX.

Dr. Swift earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland, and her master’s degree from Trinity University. She also has a Doctorate in Educational Policy and Leadership from the University of Maryland.

Mr. Bradley Palmer

Mr. Ronald Brison

Assistant Principal

Mr. Brison joined Abington School District in 2001. He taught English at Abington Junior High School for six years, served as Abington Junior High Boys' Athletic Director, and coached numerous boys' and girls' sports teams. Mr. Brison served as Secondary Summer School Assistant Principal before becoming Assistant Principal in 2007. He served as Assistant Principal of Abington Middle School until 2023.

Mr. Brison earned his bachelor's degree as well as his Masters in Secondary English Education from Shippensburg University, and his Principal K-12 Certificate from Arcadia University.

Dr. Marla Wormley

Mr. Tysean Gross

Assistant Principal

Mr. Tysean J. Gross, known to friends and family as Ty, is a Philadelphia native who graduated from Martin Luther King High School in 2006. After HS, Mr. Gross went on to attend the first historically Black college/university (HBCU), Lincoln University, where he graduated in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in English Education. While teaching English and Language Arts in Philadelphia, Mr. Gross earned an M.Ed. in both Special Education and Educational Leadership from Eastern University and Cabrini University.

Mr. Gross comes to the Abington School District from the North Penn School District, where he served as an Assistant Principal. Prior to his time at North Penn, Mr. Gross served as a Special Education Liaison and a School Climate Manager in The School District of Philadelphia.

Currently, Mr. Gross is a proud resident of Glenside, PA with his wife Nicole and his daughter Joelle. In his spare time, Mr. Gross enjoys strength training, reading, spending time with family and friends, and discovering new ways to improve self-care.

Mr. Bradley Schneider

Mr. Bradley Schneider

Assistant Principal

Mr. Schneider is a graduate of Holy Family University where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics/Secondary Education as well as his Masters in Education. Mr. Schneider obtained his second Masters in Health and Physical Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Mr. Schneider began his career in Abington School District as a Math teacher at the Senior High School in September of 2004. From 2009 to 2011, he served as a technology coach at both the Junior High and Senior High Schools.

Most recently, Mr. Schneider has been teaching business and technology at Abington Senior High School. 

Dr. Marla Wormley

Assistant Principal

Dr. Marla Wormley, an Abington graduate, has more than 20 years of experience in education as a counselor, teacher, and lead teacher. In addition, Dr. Wormley has served as the liaison between the school and mental health agencies, as well as facilitated School-Wide Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (SW-PBIS) in the School District of Philadelphia and Upper Darby School District. Dr. Wormley’s philosophy is that successful students become successful adults.

Dr. Wormley received her undergraduate and master’s degrees in education and school counseling from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She received her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Gwynedd Mercy University in 2018.

In her spare time, Dr. Wormley enjoys hiking with her son and dog. She also enjoys baking and is a huge fan of the MCU and Star Wars.

Mr. Dave Daubenspeck

Mr. Dave Daubenspeck

Business/Informations Systems Department Chair

Dave Daubenspeck arrived at Abington Senior High School the Fall of 1990. Prior to arriving at Abington, Dave taught in the Bethlehem School District, Freedom High School, where he taught courses ranging from Business Administration to Computer Programming.

Dave received a Bachelor of Science degree from Bloomsburg University, Master of Science degree from DeSales University, and various other Administrative Certifications from Temple University and Widener University.

Mr. Daubenspeck has been an instructor and lecturer of Computer Science and Information Systems at both Montgomery County Community College and Pennsylvania State University.

Currently Dave serves as the Chairperson of the Business and Information Systems Education and Future Business Leaders adviser at the Senior High School. Mr. Daubenspeck’s primary teaching responsibilities include: Advanced Placement Computer Science and Information Technology.

Mr. James Rizzuto

Mr. James Rizzuto

Mathematics Department Chair

Mr. Rizzuto joined Abington in 1993. He came to the Philadelphia area as a Graduate Assistant at Villanova University. While at Villanova, he assisted in teaching calculus and linear algebra classes. He earned an MA in Mathematics at Villanova in 1993. Mr. Rizzuto did his undergraduate work at Shippensburg University. Before coming to Abington, Mr. Rizzuto taught Calculus 1 and Calculus 2 at Widener University.

Mr. Rizzuto first taught AP Calculus in 1994 and is a strong proponent of the Advanced Placement program. He has served as an AP Reader for Calculus and attended regional CollegeBoard AP conferences. Mr. Rizzuto has been involved with ATMOPAV, PCTM and NCTM professional mathematics teaching organizations. He was a presenter at the PCTM state conference in 2008.

During his time at Abington, Mr. Rizzuto has taught most of the math course offerings and been involved in many areas of school life. He feels fortunate to work with such outstanding students and teaching professionals at Abington Senior High School. Mr. Rizzuto is proud to work in a school that offers the highest caliber of academic opportunities for all of its students.

Mr. Scott Berger

Mr. Scott Berger

Supervisor of Social Studies

Mr. Scott Berger was raised in New Jersey and then attended the University of Rhode Island as a political science and history student. As an undergraduate he participated in Semester at Sea where he accumulated college credits while visiting nine countries; it was this experience that solidified his decision to be a teacher.

Mr. Berger attended The College of New Jersey to obtain his Masters in Teaching and taught social studies at the West Windsor-Plainsboro school district in New Jersey where he also coached tennis, basketball, and soccer. He then got his Masters in Educational Administration and Supervision from Rider University. He was a House Principal at High School South in the Central Bucks School District before transitioning to be their first K-12 Social Studies Supervisor.

Scott is a proud husband and father of four children. In his spare time he enjoys traveling, concerts, classic movies, biking, playing volleyball, pickleball, and guitar. He is honored and excited to bring his 26 years of public school experience to the Abington School District.

Mrs. Leah Gallagher

Mrs. Leah Gallagher

Supervisor of Special Education

Mrs. Leah Gallagher received her Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education from Bloomsburg University, and her Master’s Degree in Education from Cabrini College . After earning her degrees, she completed her Supervisor of Special Education certification with Slippery Rock University.

Mrs. Gallagher came to Abington School District in October of 2017. Prior to Abington, Mrs. Gallagher was employed with the Carbon-Lehigh Intermediate Unit since 2003. During her career, Mrs. Gallagher was special education teacher in both Elementary and Middle school programs. Before making her transition to Abington, she was an Educational Consultant with the Carbon-Lehigh Intermediate Unit where she worked with district core teams to implement School Wide Positive Behavioral Systems (MTSS).

Mrs. Gallagher is one of the certified Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) trainers for Abington School District.

Mrs. Gallagher thoroughly enjoys the outdoors. She spends her free time in the mountains and supporting her children at their sporting events.

Mr. James Lodewick

Mr. James Lodewick

Supervisor of Teaching and Learning

Mr. Lodewick was appointed to the position of English Department Chair at Abington Senior High School in 2008. He earned his B.A. in English from Iona College in 1989, M.S. in Secondary Education from Iona College in 1996, and a Supervisory Certificate in Secondary English from Temple University. Mr. Lodewick began his teaching career in 1992 as a Physical Education Teacher at Don Bosco Prep. High School in Ramsey, N.J. Mr. Lodewick also coached Baseball and Football at Don Bosco. In 1996, Mr. Lodewick moved to Salesian H.S. in New Rochelle, N.Y. where he taught English and coached Baseball and Basketball. Mr. Lodewick came to Abington School district in 1999 and taught one year of 9th Grade English at the Junior High School before moving to the Senior High.

In addition to his teaching responsibilities over the years, Mr. Lodewick has served as the Sponsor for the Class of 2004, Moderator of the NHS, AEA Vice President, and has coached Baseball and Football.  Committees include, Opportunities to Learn, Blue Ribbon Committee, Trainer in Differentiated Instruction, Strategic Planning Committee, 21st Century Secondary Curriculum Committee, Classrooms for the Future, and The Senior High School Emergency Management Team.

Emily McGady

Dr. Emily McGady

Supervisor of Science

Dr. Emily McGady, received her BS from Drexel University in Biology with a minor in Chemistry and Physics. She completed her MS at Arcadia in Science Education and her MEd at Cabrini College in Educational Leadership. Her doctorate from Drexel is in Education Leadership and Management with a focus on Creative and Innovative Systems of Learning. She is devoted to science education and is passionate about promoting STEM career pathways for all individuals, but especially those typically underrepresented in science domains.

Dr. McGady was a science teacher, department lead and a district coordinator for science in the Philadelphia School System. She was also the K-12 Curriculum Supervisor for the Phoenixville School District prior to joining Abington. She is a Jenkintown resident and the mother of two children, Alex and Emma. Alex is an artist and adult educator at the Fleischer Art Museum in Philadelphia and Emma a biology major at West Chester University. She loves spending time with her family, being in nature and traveling.

Ms. Allison Renye

Ms. Allison Renye

Supervisor of World Language

Ms. Allison Renye joined the Abington School District in 2003 as a French and ESL teacher at the Junior High School. Before coming to Abington, Ms. Renye received her B.S.Ed. in French Secondary Education from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and L’Université de Provence, France. She went on to receive her M.Ed. in 2003 in Teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages and Adult Education at Seattle University in Seattle, WA. Additionally, Ms. Renye taught ESL to adult learners at Montgomery County Community College in 2004. Most recently in 2020, she received her supervisory certificate from Immaculata University.

Through sponsoring the Salsa and Latin Dance Club and the Diversity Club and chaperoning international trips to both France and Canada, Ms. Renye sparked her interest to share global cultures and languages with the Abington community. In 2019, she was appointed as Supervisor of World Language and has enjoyed serving students and staff at both the Junior and Senior High Schools. Ms. Renye also supervises the English Language Development Department serving English Learners in kindergarten through 12th grade.

Ms. Renye is currently serving on the Equity Committee, the Superintendent’s Committee for Reconfigured Grade Spans, and the Superintendent’s Committee for Innovation in Teaching and Learning. Outside of work, she finds balance through yoga, gardening, hiking, cooking and spending time with family and friends.

Ms. Janine Sack

Ms. Janine Sack

Supervisor of Literacy K-12

Janine Sack joined the Abington School District in 1994. She began her Abington career as a Reading teacher at Abington Junior High School. Her experience as a teacher includes teaching all courses offered at AJHS for reading. At AJHS, Mrs. Sack spent her time co-sponsoring various clubs such V.I.B.E., Reading Olympics, Diversity Club, Character Café as well as several stints coaching field hockey and basketball teams. In 2001, Sack was appointed Reading Chairperson at Abington Junior High School. Mrs. Sack has also served on a variety of committees such as the Opportunities to Learn, NCLB Special Education, Strategic Planning Action Team, Blue Ribbon, Multicultural, Gifted Education and numerous content area textbook adoption committees. In July 2013, Mrs. Sack was named the Supervisor of Communications Arts-Secondary for ASD and served as an administrator at Abington Junior and Senior High Schools. Most recently, Ms. Sack served on the Superintendent’s Committees for Elementary, Middle and High School Reconfigured Grade Spans, and the ASD Comprehensive Plan. In August 2019, Ms. Sack was named Supervisor of Literacy K-12. Her primary responsibility is to supervise the English Language Arts, Reading and Library departments in the Abington School District.

Sack received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and Master’s Degree in Reading at St. Joseph’s University. After that, she completed the requirements and practicum for Principal and Supervisor of Reading certification and holds certificates in Elementary Education, Reading, Supervisor, Secondary Principal and Curriculum and Instruction.

Mrs. Sack is active in professional development opportunities in the industry as both as a presenter and a participant. She is current president of KSLA-Delaware Valley and past president of DVRA, serving on the board for DVRA for fifteen years Mrs. Sack has presented at various conferences on reading strategies, student engagement and cultural proficiency including KSRA, DVRA, DVMSAC, Alpha Phi Epsilon’s annual conference and works with other education programs as a consultant. She has also served as an adjunct instructor in the Education departments for several area colleges, teaching Language Arts Methods, Content Area Reading, Reading Diagnosis and Remediation and other literacy courses.

Janine and her husband, Chuck are the proud parents of four daughters, Liz, Meghan, Caroline and Kiera. Their family resides in Havertown, PA.

Mr. Ryan Weathers

Mr. Ryan Weathers

Supervisor of Secondary Health and Physical Education

Mr. Weathers became the Supervisor of Secondary Health and Physical Education for ASD in July 2012.  He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology from West Chester University where he was a 25-time All American and National Champion swimmer for the Golden Rams.  Mr. Weathers returned there as an adjunct professor and assistant swimming coach before beginning his career as a Health and Physical Education Teacher at Abington Junior High School in 2006.  Mr. Weathers earned his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Arcadia University while earning his K-12 Principal Certification as well.   He has a minor in coaching, is lifeguarding/First-Aid/AED and CPR instructor certified, has an Emergency Medical Technician certification, and is an open water professional rescuer. 

During his time at Abington, Mr. Weathers has utilized his various experiences and certifications to serve in many capacities outside the classroom.  He was the Athletic Director for the Junior High School for two years and coached swimming, football, and baseball at both the Varsity and Junior High School levels.   Mr. Weathers was the district-wide First-Aid/CPR/AED trainer for administrative assistants, nurses, coaches, and paraprofessional staff.  Before transitioning to his current supervisory position, he served as the Head Swimming Coach and swimming lessons director for Arcadia University for three years. 

Mr. Weathers believes his staff is committed to guiding students on their unique path to acquire personal knowledge and life skills through physical activity.  He feels privileged to work with the students and staff of Abington Senior High School in leading healthy and active lifestyles.  

Ms. Jennifer Zahor

Ms. Jennifer Zahor

Supervisor of Special Education

Mrs. Jennifer Zahor received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Millersville University, and her Master’s Degree in Special Education from Gwynedd-Mercy University. After earning her degrees, she completed her Supervisor of Special Education certification with Lehigh University and most recently attended Holy Family University for her Principal certification and practicum.

Mrs. Zahor comes to Abington School District after spending five years at Bristol Township School District where she supported the families of special education students from Kindergarten through 12th grade, was a member of the Comprehensive Planning Committee, and supervised both the Early Intervention and Extended School Year programs.

Mrs. Zahor serves as the Director of Administration for Warminster Soccer Club, where she also serves as manager of one of her son’s travel soccer teams. You can find Mrs. Zahor on a soccer field most weekends as all three of her children play travel soccer.

Ms. Casey Chakler

Coordinator of Student Services

Prior to her role as Coordinator of Student Services, Ms. Chakler served as a Guidance Counselor for 15 years working both at Abington Middle and Abington Senior High Schools. Ms. Chakler is a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in General Science, Human Development and Family Studies. She continued her education at Villanova University where she earned her master’s degree of Education in Counseling, Human Relations and Secondary School Counseling.
